We value our partnerships with Alaska's air charter operators and are committed to delivering safe, high-quality guided fishing experiences that reflect positively on both of our businesses. This page outlines the policies, procedures, and information required to book a Family Air guide for a fly-out fishing trip operated by another air charter company.

Please review these guidelines before confirming a trip with your customers. Following these procedures helps ensure smooth coordination between the pilot, guide, and guests, allowing us to provide an exceptional experience while maintaining the highest standards of safety, communication, and customer service.

Family Air Partner Guide Service Policies

The following policies apply to all guided fly-fishing trips booked through Family Air Tours and operated in conjunction with a partner air charter company. These policies are intended to ensure safe operations, clear communication, and a consistent experience for every guest.

Reservations & Guide Availability

  • Guide availability must be confirmed with Family Air Tours before any trip is sold or confirmed with a customer.

  • Any changes to trip dates, departure times, destinations, fishing locations, or passenger counts must be approved by Family Air Tours prior to the trip.

  • Guided trips for six (6) or more guests require full payment at the time of booking.

  • Guests may cancel for any reason up to seven (7) days before the scheduled trip and receive a full refund.

  • All guest information is required at time of booking, bookings will not be made without

Guest Requirements

  • All guests must sign the Family Air Tours Liability Waiver before participating in a guided trip.

  • Guests are responsible for purchasing and possessing a valid Alaska Sport Fishing License prior to the trip. A minimum one-day sport fishing license is required. A King Salmon Stamp is not required for our guided trips. Licenses can be purchased through the following link - https://store.adfg.alaska.gov/

  • Family Air Tours and The Hook Up Fly Shop are not responsible for ensuring guests return to their cruise ship or other transportation on time and cannot be held liable for missed "all aboard" times.

Guiding Policies

  • Family Air Tours is a fly-fishing guide service. Guides provide fly-fishing equipment only and do not carry conventional or spinning tackle.

  • We do not take Observers, it is full price for all guests whether or not they want to fish.

  • Guests wishing to fish with spinning gear must provide their own rods, reels, tackle, and terminal gear.

  • Family Air Tours guides will only guide approved fishing locations identified on the trip request form. Requests to guide at any other location require prior approval from Jim Davis.

  • Family Air Tours guides do not utilize U.S. Forest Service cabins or boats as part of guided fishing trips, regardless of whether the guest has reserved the cabin.

  • For larger groups, the Humpback Lake Chalet may be rented to accommodate multiple boats for an additional fee of $200.00 per day, subject to availability.

Trip Duration

  • All Trips are booked from dock to dock, a 6 hour trip is not 6 hours of fishing.

  • Guided trips that exceed the scheduled duration will be billed at $70.00 per person, per additional hour, unless otherwise agreed in advance.

Weather & Safety

  • Family Air Tours guides reserve the right to delay, modify, or cancel any guided trip due to weather or other safety concerns, regardless of whether the operating air charter company elects to fly.

  • Guide decisions regarding guest safety, fishing conditions, wildlife encounters, and environmental hazards are final.

  • Personal flotation devices (PFDs) must be worn whenever required by the guide.

Alcohol, Drugs & Wildlife

  • Alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited on all guided trips.

  • Guides will not take guests who appear to be intoxicated or impaired and may terminate a trip if impairment creates a safety concern.

  • Guests may not approach, feed, harass, or intentionally disturb wildlife and must follow all guide instructions regarding wildlife encounters.

Guide Service Payment Terms

  • Guide services will be invoiced by Family Air Tours following completion of the trip.

  • Payment is due upon completion of Guide Trip.

  • Any unpaid balance after fourteen (14) days will accrue a finance charge of 1.5% per month (18% annually), or the maximum rate permitted by applicable law, whichever is less.

  • Family Air Tours reserves the right to suspend future guide services for any account with invoices more than thirty (30) days past due until all outstanding balances have been paid in full.

Acceptance of Policies

Booking a Family Air Tours guide constitutes acceptance of these policies by the contracting air charter company and its clients. Family Air Tours reserves the right to update these policies at any time. The most current version will apply to all future bookings.

Important Information and Frequently Asked Questions for Guided Fishing Trips

1. What should I bring on a guided fishing trip?

- Essentials: Valid fishing license, appropriate clothing (layers, rain gear, hat, ), sunscreen, insect repellent, camera, and any personal medications.

- Optional: Sunglasses, and a water bottle. We have a water bottle refill station in the shop.

2. Are fishing licenses required?

- Yes, a valid fishing license is required for all participants. You can get it HERE

- nonresidents age 16 or older must purchase and possess a sport fishing license to participate in Alaska sport and personal use fisheries

3. What type of gear is provided?

- We provide all necessary fishing gear, including rods, reels, waders, boots, flies, and tackle. However, you can bring your own gear if preferred.

4. Do I need to have prior fishing experience?

- No prior experience is required. Our guides are skilled at accommodating all skill levels, from beginners to experienced anglers.

5. What is the best time of year for fishing?

- The best time depends on the species you’re targeting. For example, salmon runs are typically in summer starting mid July through the end of September, while trout fishing can be excellent in spring and fall. Steelhead run from April through the end of May. Check with the guide for seasonal specifics.

6. What happens in case of bad weather?

- Safety is a priority. Trips may be adjusted or rescheduled in severe weather conditions. Guides will provide alternatives or safety instructions if necessary. If you cant reschedule due to weather a full refund will be issued in 3-5 business days

7. Can I keep the fish I catch?

- All of our fishing is catch and release, we don’t kill our business partner.
